Get AI
Working

For mechanics

Found on Google. More cars booked. Priced at the hoist.

The cars are out there; AI changed how their owners find a workshop. We come to you, pick the few fixes that make the biggest difference, and set them up in your own accounts.

For mechanics

The things keeping you up at night.

Searches go down the road, extra work waits, and write-ups wait for closing.

  • Nobody finds us when they search.
  • Near me shows somebody else.
  • Enquiries sit in an inbox nobody opens.
  • The extra work waits on a call.
  • The write-up happens after closing.
  • We pay for apps nobody opens.

What changed

People stopped searching. They ask an AI.

The same machine now drafts, answers and chases for a business that used to need a service adviser. Get AI Working exists to get that machine working for small businesses like yours.

  • Then: you had to be in the list

Somebody searched, scrolled a page of links, and rang whoever looked closest. Every workshop listed was in the running.

  • Now: one business gets named

Google writes the answer itself and the AI assistants name a business or two.2 Half say they would take that summary and never click anybody.1

  • What to do: be the name in the answer

Build the listing, the pages and the answered reviews a machine can check, then add the rest one at a time.

Sources + notes

“Near me” tops what people type.3 Nobody publishes a missed-call rate for this trade, so this page states none.4

Demand is not in doubt: 41.7% of light vehicles here are ten years old or older, against 38.5% across New South Wales,9 and at least 42,615 are electric, hybrid or hydrogen.10

A repair nobody asked for is unsolicited, and the customer is not liable to pay for it.5 Since 2022 a car maker must sell every repairer its own diagnostic data, at a fair price, on request.7

Your industry pays a compensation fund a customer can claim from if the repair was not done well, up to AU$100,000.8 Your workshop software may already send the service reminder, read on its own pages 22 September 2026.

  1. Published. Telsyte Australian Artificial Intelligence Study 2026, read 25 August 2026. Online survey, April to May 2026, 2,023 Australians aged 16 and over, for the 12% now naming an AI tool as their main way of finding information online (5% a year earlier) and for the half who would rely on the summary and never click through.
  2. Verified. Google’s AI features documentation, 10 December 2025: “There are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, nor other special optimizations necessary.” Google, Tips to improve your local ranking on Google, support.google.com, read 29 August 2026, for “There’s no way to request or pay for a better local ranking on Google.” The four things that get a page quoted are a controlled study of 252,000 trials, arXiv:2605.25517; our Get Found page carries it in full.
  3. Measured, and localised to one machine. Google’s public autocomplete endpoint, queried with the Australian parameter on 8 September 2026, eleven prefixes, every one HTTP 200, raw responses saved. “Near me” is the first suggestion for five of the eleven prefixes and 15 of the 109 suggestions returned carry “near me” or “nearby”. The “pink slip” prefix returns it the other way too, as “mechanic near me for pink slip” and “mechanic penrith pink slip”. These are this machine’s results and the machine is in the Blue Mountains, so this is evidence of how local the category is rather than of national demand.
  4. Reported, not verified, and the gap is the finding. AIIMS Group, reported by Dynamic Business, 28 August 2026: more than 207,000 inbound calls across 858 client businesses in nine industries, average drop rate 9.2%. Measured on 8 September 2026: the article names five of its nine industries and motor repair is not among them; “mechanic”, “automotive”, “motor” and “car” each appear zero times in it. So no unanswered-call rate is published for this trade, and this page states none.
  5. Verified. Australian Consumer Law, Schedule 2 to the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth), Compilation No. 165, compilation date 1 July 2026, read 8 September 2026. Section 2 defines unsolicited services as services supplied “without any request made by the person”; section 42: the recipient “is not liable to make any payment for the services”; section 40(2): a person must not assert a right to payment “unless the person has reasonable cause to believe that there is a right to the payment”. Measured on the two New South Wales instruments described at note 8: “quote”, “quotation” and “written authority” each return zero hits.
  6. Verified. Road Transport (Vehicle Registration) Regulation 2017 (NSW), read 8 September 2026. cl 68(7): the charge for issuing an inspection report “must not be more than the maximum charge for the time being specified by Transport for NSW”, which its own fee page gives as up to AU$52 including GST for a light vehicle safety check from 1 July 2026. cl 68(10): issuing a report known or reasonably suspected to be false or misleading carries up to AU$2,200.
  7. Verified. Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth), Part IVE, the motor vehicle service and repair information sharing scheme, Compilation No. 166, compilation date 27 August 2026, read 8 September 2026; commencement 1 July 2022 verified from the scheme Rules’ own table, F2021L01464. Section 57CA(2) requires a data provider to offer the same scheme information to all Australian repairers; section 57CA(4) requires a price that “does not exceed the fair market value of the information”; section 57CB(2) requires actual supply on written request. Maximum penalty up to AU$10,000,000 for a body corporate.
  8. Verified. Motor Dealers and Repairers Act 2013 (NSW) and the Motor Dealers and Repairers Regulation 2025, read whole from the in-force consolidations on legislation.nsw.gov.au on 8 September 2026. Regulation section 19(2) requires the holder’s name and licence number on a sign readily visible to a person approaching the premises, or on the outside of the vehicle where the business is carried on from one; up to AU$2,200. The Compensation Fund: section 168(1)(a) lets a person claim for “a loss because the repair work carried out on a motor vehicle ... was not competently done”; section 61 of the Regulation prescribes up to AU$100,000; section 165A makes the contribution a condition of the licence.
  9. Measured. Transport for NSW, Vehicle Registration Statistics, the department’s own open data portal, read 8 September 2026. From the Vehicle Registrations Snapshot 2026 resource, over the four light vehicle types a general workshop services: 41.7% of the 1,222,822 light vehicles in the thirteen councils of this catchment are ten years old or older, against 38.5% of 3,153,892 across New South Wales. 2,155,386 registered vehicles across the thirteen, 1,749,384 of them private or pensioner-concession.
  10. Measured and verified. Electrified vehicles, from the same Transport for NSW snapshot described at note 9, counting rows whose motive power is EV, PHEV or FCEV over unsuppressed cells only, 8 September 2026: 42,615 counted across the thirteen councils against 120,473 across New South Wales, and it is a floor, because suppression is heavier in this cross-tabulated file. Three of the sixteen classes of repair work prescribed by the Regulation described at note 8 each read “other than battery electric vehicles or hybrid vehicles”.

What we set up

What it looks like on a real job.

Drawn examples of what we set up, not client results.

The services behind it

What it costs

What it costs, and how you pay.

Three bundles, each from a figure that moves with your business.

The AU$499 starter does the two things every workshop needs first: your Google profile done properly, and every customer asked for a review the lawful way. Spread the payments over 3, 6 or 12 months, interest-free, depending on the size of the work.

A bundle is scoped before it is priced, and whatever your workshop software already does comes out of it.

On a quiet website the Sell More bundle carries adverts in their feed instead of adverts to past visitors, because Google needs enough visitors before it will show those. Why

How it works

The Switch‑On Method.

Five steps, the same every time. Switched on inside 30 days.

  1. Listen

A free first hour about your business, not about AI. You leave with your insight portal: a private page about your business, your trade and your area.

  2. Scope

One page in plain English: what we do, what it costs, what we measure.

  3. Build

Set up inside the accounts you already own. Nothing to migrate into.

  4. Train

Your people shown how to drive it, on your real work, until it sticks.

  5. Measure

At 90 days we measure against day one and show you the before and after.

The method in full

Why us

Six reasons owners pick us.

A local practice that builds in your accounts, hands everything over, and tells you straight.

Rory McNeil
Rory McNeilFounder, in BlaxlandThe person on the call, the person who builds it, and the person who shows your people how to drive it.
  1. We set you up, and it’s yours

We set it up in your accounts, hand over every login, and teach you to change it. You don’t pay us forever.

  2. We pick what fits

No packages. We pick the few things that will make the biggest difference, tell you what’s not worth it, and what you can stop paying for.

  3. It costs less to start

Start from AU$499, with the price in writing before we start. Three months’ support included, then optional at AU$99 a month.

  4. We’re where you are

We’re local. We sit down with you in your business, and you can always reach a real person.

  5. It moves fast

Most things are set up in days or a few weeks.

  6. Someone to ask about AI

Not sure who to ask about AI? Ask us: we’ll tell you straight, and we can set it up.

Included with every paid engagement

One hour with us, in person, on the AI you actually want to ask about.

A free workshop on Claude Code or Codex, for you and whoever you bring. Everything we build afterwards sits on it.

  • Ask what you actually want to ask

Whether it will replace you, what it gets wrong, what it costs to run. No question is too basic.

  • Say what worries you

Customer data, staff, the law, sounding like a robot. We go through each one with your business in front of us.

  • Set the goals for the engagement

The hour a week you want back, the enquiry you keep missing. Written down, then measured.

  • Learn to drive it yourself

By the end you can ask the machine to change your website, redraft an email or rerun a report.

Questions

What workshop owners ask before they book.

If yours is not here, ask it in your free hour.

Whether you can get a workshop recommended by ChatGPT

Partly, and honestly. Google says in its own documentation that no special files or markup are needed to appear in its AI answers, and the one controlled study of what gets a page quoted found four things: that the page answers the question, states prices, carries recent dates, and can be verified from several directions.2

What the law actually says about quoting before you start

Less than the folklore does: neither the Motor Dealers and Repairers Act 2013 nor its 2025 Regulation uses the word “quote” once. The duty that bites is Commonwealth: a repair nobody asked for is an unsolicited service, the customer is not liable to pay for it, and billing for it needs reasonable cause to believe there is a right to the payment.5

Where your licence number has to appear

On a sign readily visible to somebody approaching the premises, or on the outside of the van if you work from one, with your name beside it.8

What you may charge for a pink slip

Up to the maximum the state publishes, which is AU$52 including GST for a light vehicle safety check from 1 July 2026. It cannot be marked up, and discounting it gives away the whole fee.6

What it costs, and what you get for it

Any service on the menu is bought on its own, or together as a bundle from AU$1,790 or AU$2,490. The figure is in writing before you commit a dollar, and it is built in accounts you own.

Who owns the accounts, and what happens after

You do: everything is built in accounts under your own passwords, and whatever we build is yours. Three months’ support is included, then it’s optional at AU$99 a month.
