Get AI
Working

Why now

Who gets found. What gets done. AI changed both.

Customers now ask an AI assistant and take its answer, and the same AI can do real work inside a small business. Here is what changed, what it means for yours, and how we set it up.

What changed for customers

Customers ask AI now, and take its answer.

Search used to hand out ten links. Now an AI assistant writes one answer, and the business it names gets the call.

  • 5% to 12%People ask an AI assistant

The share of Australians naming an AI tool as their main way of finding information online, in one year.1 Half say they would take the summary at the top and never click through.1

  • 15% to 8%Fewer clicks reach a website

How often people clicked a normal search result once an AI summary sat above it, in a US study.2 No Australian equivalent exists, so read it as a direction rather than a forecast.

  • NobodyLocal answers are wide open

The local businesses an AI assistant named when asked who to use to sell a house in Glenbrook or Blaxland.3 Whoever becomes quotable first takes that spot.

  • 12%Plenty have not started

The share of Australian businesses that told the ABS they use AI, the strongest count there is.4 Surveys with weaker methods run higher, so read it as room to be early.

What changed for the work

AI no longer just writes. It does the work.

It can now generate, think and act. The useful question is what each one could do in your business.

  • Generate

The part most people have tried.Write copySummarise a documentDraft a design

  • Think

It works through information rather than just writing about it.Research a marketCompare optionsSpot a pattern

  • Act

A chat window, or Claude Code

A chat window is only the surface.

In a chat window you bring the context every time, and you get back words to check and use yourself. Claude Code and Codex work inside a folder that holds your business, so they can carry out a whole job and stop for your approval.

  • The questionWhat you ask. On its own, it is all a chat window has to go on.
  • The contextYour brand, prices, rules and customers, written down once and read on every job.
  • The connectionsThe files and tools it may use, with access you approve.
  • The actionThe job carried out step by step, checked against your rules, then held for your sign-off.

How it is set up

Three things, working together. It takes all three.

Connection without skills is data nobody uses, and skills without your knowledge write generic mush. Your knowledge without connection stays in your head.

  • Everything connected

Your website, Google profile, inbox, bookings and books joined into one picture. Nothing is retyped and nothing is guessed.

  • Our engine

The skills, checks and guardrails that know how marketing and back-office work is done properly. It will not publish a claim without a source, or send anything without sign-off.

  • Taught your business

Your brand, voice, facts, goals and never-say list, kept private to you. It is why the work sounds like you rather than like a robot.

And two standing rules

  • A person approves everythingNothing goes out until you have signed it off, with a record of who and when.
  • Everything is measuredWhere you start is written down on day one, so what does not work gets stopped.

Your data

One engine. Your own private space.

The engine holds the skills and none of any client’s data. Your knowledge, data and rules are kept in a private space for your business alone, and nothing in it goes into anyone else’s work.

  • Anything sensitive goes only through AI accounts whose terms say it is not used for training.
  • Your Google, your email and your AI plan stay in your name. Whatever we build is yours.
  • The four data rules are written into the scope you sign. Read them.

What it can and cannot do

Useful with a clear job. Your judgement still decides.

Give it a job you can describe and it saves hours. Ask it to decide for you and it can sound sure and still be wrong.

AI can

  • Draft and summarise
  • Research and compare
  • Find patterns in your information
  • Carry out a defined job, step by step

AI cannot

  • Know your business on its own
  • Fix an unclear offer
  • Guarantee a correct answer
  • Take responsibility for the decision

The subscription pile

Fewer apps, not more.

Owners are sold a stream of apps at a small monthly fee each, and many are a few AI instructions behind a slick screen. Together they add up, and it is hard to tell which ones pay for themselves.

  • Keep the ones worth paying forPayroll, your accounts and your booking system hold your records, and they stay. Much of the rest can be set up on one AI plan.
  • One plan, your choiceClaude, with Claude Code, or ChatGPT, with Codex, in your name, one per person who keeps using it. What it costs to run is on the pricing page.
  • Less to keep track ofFewer logins, fewer bills and fewer updates. Your free hour looks at what you pay for each month, and what earns its place.

Sources & notes
  1. Published. Telsyte Australian Artificial Intelligence Study 2026, read 25 August 2026. Online survey, April to May 2026, 2,023 Australians aged 16 and over, for the 12% now naming an AI tool as their main way of finding information online (5% a year earlier) and for the half who would rely on the summary and never click through.
  2. Published. Pew Research Center, 22 July 2025, read 25 August 2026 and again 26 September 2026. 900 US adults, 68,879 Google searches, of which 12,593 produced an AI summary, March 2025. United States only; no Australian equivalent exists and we will not pretend otherwise.
  3. Measured by us. Two questions put to an AI assistant on 25 August 2026 for a Blue Mountains business: asked for the best agents in the Lower Blue Mountains it named two franchise brands and no local firm; asked who to use to sell a house in Glenbrook or Blaxland it named no local business at all. One catchment, one day, two questions: a shape, not a benchmark.
  4. Verified. ABS, Characteristics of Australian Business, 2024-25, released 25 June 2026, read 16 September 2026: business use of AI, all businesses 12%. The ABS says the question “is not designed to measure intensity or extent of use within the business”. All business sizes, most of them employing nobody. Other surveys put adoption at about 40% to about 67% with weaker methods, and the Get Time Back page sets the whole spread out.

Questions

The questions owners ask first.

If yours is not here, bring it to the free hour.

Do I need to be technical

No. You tell it what you want in plain English, and the free workshop shows you and your team how, on your own work.

Claude or ChatGPT, which should we use

Either, and we set up whichever you choose in your own name. If you already pay for one, that is usually the one to keep.

What about the apps we already pay for

We go through them in the free hour and tell you which earn their keep. Where a free tool or your AI plan does the job, we say so in writing.

Is our data safe

Anything sensitive goes only through AI accounts whose terms say it is not used for training, and the scope names exactly what we may touch. Your knowledge and data are kept apart from every other client’s.

What if AI changes again next month

It will, which is why your business is written down in plain files rather than locked inside one app. Plain files move to a better tool when one arrives.
